The residue on the metal surface after cutting by the metal laser cutting machine is called slag. Metal laser cutting machines generate a lot of heat during processing. Typically, the heat generated during cutting is diffused throughout the workpiece along the kerf, and the workpiece is then sufficiently cooled. However, when cutting small-hole workpieces, the outside of the hole can be fully cooled, and the inside of the hole has a small space for heat diffusion, and the heat is too concentrated to cause slag.
After cutting slag, first find out the reason from the following points:
①The focus of the laser beam is deviated
If the focus is too close or too far, it will affect the cutting quality, and it can only be adjusted by inspection and adjusted according to the offset position.
②Insufficient laser output power
When cutting thick plates, the power is not enough to melt the entire plate. If the power can still be adjusted, you can increase the power and continue to test whether it can be cut off. If the power has been adjusted to the maximum, you need to replace the laser with a higher power.
③The air pressure of the auxiliary gas is not enough
The auxiliary gas can blow off the cutting slag and cool the heat affected zone of the cutting. If the air pressure is too small, the residue will not be blown out of the workpiece or the workpiece will not be cooled in time, resulting in the formation of slag. Adjust the air pressure to an appropriate size.
④The cutting speed is too fast or too slow
If the cutting speed of laser cutting is too fast, the workpiece will not be cut off in time, the cutting surface will form diagonal stripes, and there will be slag in the lower half area. If the cutting speed is too slow, over-melting will occur, the overall cut surface will be rough, the cutting seam will become wider, and there will be slag hanging in the upper part.
